2012/13 PPG Update and Survey Results
The practice currently has 12,500 Patients and with the majority of our registered patients being White British, however due to the location of the practice we do have a diverse population.
We chose to set up a Virtual PPG as we felt we would be able to reach more patients that way, so we started a campaign to recruit members to the group.
The campaign started in the summer of 2011 with posters being placed around the surgery asking patients to join the group. In addition to this we produced an "invite" form. The form asked for the following details to help us build up a profile:
- Age
- Ethnic group
- How often they attend surgery
The receptionists were very active in giving these forms out to patients as they arrived and it resulted in a return of 271 questionnaires. We used our various clinics to attract new members including mother and baby clinic, pain clinics and diabetic clinics, not to mention our Flu campaign, which is always well attended especially the flu event held at St Mary’s, Bearwood; this year over 500 patients attended.
From this information we were able to establish the following:

Once we had the email addresses we completed our virtual email lists and sent a test, unfortunately this resulted in a return of approximately 40-50 “unable to deliver” messages and although we have checked the addresses to ensure we have the correct details it would appear that these will not be part of the virtual group as they are incorrect.
We then took steps to ask our virtual group what they wished to appear in their first patient survey, three subjects were suggested:
- Appointments and did not attends
- How the prescriptions system worked in particular repeats
- Facilities
We received 67 responses to our request and option 1, appointments and did not attends received the vast majority with 74% of respondents wanting to complete the survey and know more about how our appointment system works.
So this is where we find ourselves, the survey is being prepared and about to be emailed to our virtual group for their feedback.
